Let’s start by understanding the basic principles that contribute to a balanced and effective setup. Start by positioning your feet shoulder-width apart, creating stability and a solid base. Your weight should be evenly distributed between both feet, with a slight flex in the knees to promote flexibility and maintain balance throughout your swing. Weight distribution will change throughout the swing but staying on the balls of your feet helps maintain balance.
Alignment is equally crucial. Ensure your feet, knees, hips and shoulders are parallel to the target line. This promotes a straighter shot trajectory and minimizes the chances of slicing or hooking the ball. When practicing your stance, an alignment stick can aid in determining if you are aimed properly at the target. In relation to the golf ball position, the alignment stick should be between your feet and the ball, to provide a reference point to the target.
