When you play a course and remember each hole, it has individuality and change. If your mind cannot recall the exact sequence of the holes, that course lacks the great assets of originality and diversity. GEORGE C. THOMAS Jr.

Jason Day Takes Equity Stake in Budding Golf Shoe Company

You know that feeling of sitting on a secret, not being able to tell a soul?

That’s how I felt earlier this month when Mike Forsey and Mike Glancy of PAYNTR Golf let me in on a little secret. They had just partnered with Jason Day. I got off that call immediately excited for what this meant for the budding golf brand, one that we’ve seen blossom over the past few years.

If you’re unfamiliar with PAYNTR Golf, here’s a refresher. They exploded onto the scene after taking the top spot in our 2022 golf shoe testing. The Portland, Ore., golf performance brand followed that with a stellar performance in 2023 as well.

The one thing PAYNTR has been missing? The big name. Sure, a stable that consists of Mike Weir and long drive giant Martin Borgmeier is nice. But in order to reach the masses, PAYNTR needed someone who really moves the needle.

Enter Jason Day.

The Truth About Virtual Reality Golf

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried:

Golf+, a virtual reality golf game that’s played with a VR headset. I played Golf+ using the Meta Quest.

Who Tried It:

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I’m not big on video games but ever since trying Golf+ at the PGA Merchandise Show, I’ve been hooked. Seriously, three minutes at the PGA Show convinced me that I needed this in my life.

What is Golf+?

Describing Golf+ isn’t the easiest thing to do. It’s fairly simple at a surface level. It’s an immersive golf experience made to play via a VR headset. But that’s where the simplicity stops.

Golf+ is something that has to be experienced to really understand. And, while I can’t ship a VR headset to each of you to try, the next best thing is to share some thoughts from people who have taken Golf+ for a spin. You’ll see some reactions in the video below.

WITB: Scheffler, Ancer Ride Mallets to Victory

Scottie Scheffler (Arnold Palmer Invitational) and Abraham Ancer (LIV Golf Hong Kong) were your victors this past weekend.

Scheffler’s putter switch dominated headlines as he saw massive improvements with the TaylorMade Spider Tour X mallet. The world No. 1 ranked fifth in strokes gained putting for the week at Bay Hill, gaining 4.36 shots on the field. Even with that performance, he is only at No. 107 on Tour for the year.

Scheffler has been all over the map with putters over the past year, mostly using blades. He had a long run with a Scotty Cameron Special Select Timeless Tourtype before starting to experiment halfway through 2023.

The Texan first changed to a wider-bodied Scotty Cameron Timeless Tourtype blade before going into a TaylorMade Spider Tour X SS proto mallet that is similar to what he is playing now. Scheffler also had a recent stint with a Logan Olson prototype blade.

The Spider Tour X putter in his bag is a half-inch longer (35.5 inches) than his previous gamer and features an L-Neck hosel and True Path alignment aid with a full-line sight line on top. It has 3 degrees of loft and a 72-degree lie angle.

Amazon Finds: Revasri NK-1000 Rangefinder

To say the world of golfing technology is convoluted and filled with options would be a significant understatement. The options are nearly limitless and most of them are pricey. Rangefinders are a popular option for many golfers. Features, prices and quality vary widely. In this edition of Amazon Finds, we will explore the budget-friendly Revasri NK-1000 Rangefinder.

The Problem:

Rangefinders can make a golfer’s life a lot easier, aiding in improving course knowledge and lowering scores. The catch is that many are at least $100 with premium models exceeding $350. Are there less expensive options that can work just as effectively?

The Solution:

Amazon has a plethora of options when it comes to rangefinders. The Revarsi NK-1000 golf rangefinder aims to deliver the best bang for the buck. At only $47.49, it offers slope compensation, flagpole lock, pulse vibration, rechargeable battery and up to 1,000 yards or meters in range.

Packed with features but can it compete with other more expensive options on the market?

How I Found It:

I purchased another cheaper rangefinder last year as my first-ever rangefinder. I was unsure of how much I would use it and didn’t want to spend a lot on something that might not fit into my routine. It quickly became a crucial part of my game and a huge benefit. Unfortunately, the cheaper rangefinder I had purchased, while actually really good in terms of performance, had the battery die at the end of the season. The price of the replacement battery was nearly a third of the unit’s cost so I decided to try out a new one. The Revasri NK-1000 has a rechargeable battery via USB-C that was a huge selling point for me. Based on its great reviews, the “Buy Now” button was hit and the wait began!

PUMA Heads For the Swamp with Limited-Edition Gator Golf Shoes

Do you know how many golf balls are lost each year on the island-green 17th hole at Sawgrass?

I’m more concerned with how many of those balls are actually retrieved. It’s risky business fishing out nearly 100,000 golf balls per year.

Why? Gators.

Any sensible golfer is not risking their life over a golf ball (yes, even a Pro V1 isn’t worth losing an arm). Luckily for you, PUMA Golf is making it cool to play with the gators. Or wear them!

jQuery( document ).ready( function( $ ) { var slides = $( '#mgs_gallery_65f227cf1e46b .mgs-gallery-images .mgs-gallery-image' ).length; if ( slides 6 ) { slides = 6; } $( '#mgs_gallery_65f227cf1e46b .mgs-gallery-images' ).slick( { slidesToShow: 1, slidesToScroll: 1, fade: true, prevArrow: '', nextArrow: '', asNavFor: '#mgs_gallery_65f227cf1e46b .mgs-gallery-thumbs', swipe: false, mobileFirst: true, } ); $( '#mgs_gallery_65f227cf1e46b .mgs-gallery-thumbs' ).slick( { slidesToShow: ( slides - 1 ), //less than number of slides, so it always shows infinite scroll (bugfix) slidesToScroll: 1, arrows: false, asNavFor: '#mgs_gallery_65f227cf1e46b .mgs-gallery-images', centerMode: true, focusOnSelect: true, infinite: true, mobileFirst: true, responsive: [ { breakpoint: 1023, settings: { slidesToShow: 3, }, }, { breakpoint: 600, settings: { slidesToShow: 1, }, }, ], } ); $( '#mgs_gallery_65f227cf1e46b' ).magnificPopup( { delegate: '.mgs-gallery-trigger', type: 'image', gallery: { enabled: true, arrowMarkup: '', }, } ); } );

Introducing PUMA’s limited-edition Gator capsule. Headlined by the new PHANTOMCAT NITRO Gator shoe, the Gator capsule is fittingly named for Sawgrass’ signature reptilian. Between the slick alligator headcovers and sexy PHANTOMCAT NITRO golf shoes, I’m starting to think gators ain’t that bad. Although I’ll never forgive them for what they did to my boy, Chubbs.
