Our New Test Ball
In a decade of testing, we have never seen results like this.
The results we saw were so compelling we dedicated over 2+ years of research and testing with a goal: find the best golf ball in the world.
The ball is the most critical component of testing and common to every single shot we hit. After completing quality control and performance analysis the results are clear. Our testing has identified the best golf balls in the world. Therefore, we are switching to the Titleist Pro V1 as the official golf ball of MyGolfSpy testing.
How Does This Help You?
Our goal is to have the most consistent and reliable testing in the world. To do that, we have to eliminate variables. The golf ball should not be a variable. It is the one thing that is a part of every shot we hit. So, when we have an opportunity to improve, we improve. We owe it to you.
When our data gets better, our recommendations get stronger. When our testing becomes more reliable, you can have more confidence in your purchasing decisions.

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.
What We Tried
The Under Armour Spieth 5 SL
What is the Spieth 5 SL?
Until now, the Spieth shoe has exclusively been a spiked shoe. The 2021 version ditches the spikes and takes on the growing spikeless trend. For golf nerds like me, the shoe has a multitude of features that indicate Under Armour understands the difference shoes can make in a player’s game. These include a 3D-molded footbed for improved fit and less slip and a HOVR outsole foam which Under Armour claims to get you more connected with the ground without losing energy transfer in your swing.
The Spieth 5 SL also has a heel counter that locks in your foot with no room for heel movement. It has a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) sole which is more flexible, lightweight and durable compared to typical rubber or nitrile soles. Throw in a waterproof membrane and you have the first spikeless Spieth golf shoe.
Why Are We Trying It?
It might be because Jordan Spieth has been playing well in recent months while wearing his new spikeless shoe. Coincidence?

Next up, the one missing piece from Phil Mickelson's major puzzle. Could he be a factor there, too? And is Rickie Fowler back? And should we be worried about Rory McIlroy again, and Dustin Johnson? The PGA answered some questions and left us with others.
