The slow pace of play is one of the most frequently criticized aspects of golf. It affects enjoyment for casual players, frustrates fans, and can even deter new participants from picking up the sport.
Rounds too long: A standard 18-hole round often takes 4.5 to 5.5 hours.
Barrier to entry: Many potential players—especially younger people—don’t have time for lengthy rounds.
Declining participation: Long games can discourage repeat play, especially for beginners and recreational golfers.
Too many groups packed into limited time slots causes backups and delays.

In a Mongolian reversal of the typical iron release playbook, Callaway is bringing chrome to a product that launched exclusively in black.
The chrome version after the black … How weird is that?
The new Apex Ti Fusion Plated irons offer the same technology as the original Ti Fusion, just with a premium chrome finish that should appease golfers who aren’t ready to embrace the stealth aesthetic.
While it’s easy to poke a little bit of fun, it’s not quite as simple as it sounds. That is to say that it’s not quite as easy as swapping finishes. Dealing with multi-material construction—specifically titanium—makes chrome plating a significantly more complex proposition than it is with traditional steel irons. Titanium is a reactive material that oxidizes at high temperatures, making traditional chrome plating unreliable. Callaway had to develop a proprietary process with an intermediate layer between the titanium and finish to allow chrome to properly adhere to the titanium components. The company believes the chrome finish will prove more durable than the PVD coating used on the original black version.
It’s also not lost on anyone at Callaway that testing revealed lots of players wanted chrome and not everyone loves the look of black irons.

Iron ball-striking is one of those parts of the game that can shift fast. One day, you’re flushing everything. The next day, you’re catching it thin, fat or just a little off. If you’re trying to get your iron contact dialed in and more consistent, make sure these three myths aren’t holding you back. I can tell you from experience that the drill to work on fixing myth No. 1 is still something I use sometimes when I warm up to play.
The “hit down” concept can be a little difficult to understand because it’s partially true. A descending blow is part of a great strike. But trying to force that downward hit can ruin your contact. When most amateur golfers think about hitting down, they think of a steep motion that ends at the ground.
When you swing too steeply into the turf, you lose energy into the ground. Even if you catch the ball first, you’re sacrificing distance, launch and consistency.
The goal isn’t just down — it’s through.
Try this drill: Place a tee about two inches in front of the golf ball (on your target line). Now hit shots where your divot starts at the ball and finishes past the tee. This helps train the feeling of hitting through the ball with forward shaft lean. You’ll start to let go of the concept of hitting down only.

It’s not always easy to find a driver that suits your game and fits your budget. If you’re open to a driver that isn’t the newest on the market, or it’s been in another golfer’s bag for a bit, you can often find something at a fraction of the price. We combed through the Callaway Pre‑Owned site and cross-referenced with driver testing results over the last few years to find the best pre‑owned Callaway drivers you can buy right now.
The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max D was ranked first overall for distance in the 2024 Best Driver testing. The interesting thing about this is that most draw-bias drivers are higher performing for forgiveness and fall behind a bit in distance.
The Max D posted a 9.4/10 distance score and led in both carry and total yards. For golfers who struggle with a slice or are falling behind a bit in distance capability, picking up a used Max D could be a good choice.
Long carry distance, very forgiving, built-in draw bias, ideal for slicers.
Accuracy is only average; draw bias may overcorrect for players who already turn the ball over.

We’re sneaking up on the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage. A little over two months from now, the U.S. will look to defend home turf against the Europeans.
This week, we are taking a look at which players could make each team. It’s still an open competition for the last few spots on each side as we get deeper into the summer.
After taking a look at the American team, now it’s time to focus on the Europeans.
Here is how the team looked two years ago when they won in Rome.
