Callaway X-Prototype Combo Iron

Callaway X Prototype Combo Iron – Japan Forged + MILLED

The X Prototype Combo Iron is an upgraded version of the already popular X FORGED irons that dropped earlier this year. Those irons were a hit, and now Callaway Japan has taken it a step further with this limited-edition set launching in August.  At the time of writing this blog post we only have a few sets left.

The key thing to note is that these are Made in Japan using the gigantic enomoto press,  then the raw forged single pressed head is CNC milled for it’s base shape and aesthetics. Then the rough milling marks are polished away to to complete the club.  Japan Forged & CNC Milled in Tochigi Japan by Sasaki Co.

This set is a combo of 7 irons (I#4-9, PW), just like the X FORGED, with a 33-degree loft on the I#7. But what sets the X Prototype apart is the mix of head shapes. The I#4-7 are cavity back, giving you that extra forgiveness on longer shots, while the I#8, 9, and PW shift to a muscle-back design for more control when you need it.

Thanks to a unique forged + milled construction, you get an incredibly soft feel at impact. Unlike traditional methods that can harden the material, these clubs are forged with just one strike, then precision-milled to perfection. The result? A pure, soft feeling.

The leading and trailing edges are chamfered, and the sole width has been fine-tuned for better performance. Plus, the loft markings are smaller, giving it a sleek, refined look. Now, here’s the real kicker—every single part of these irons is made in Japan. From the forging of the head by Sasaki Corporation in Tochigi Prefecture to the assembly of the shaft and grip, it’s all done right here. That’s what makes the X Prototype truly special.

Best Budget Rangefinders (5 To Consider)

We tried rangefinders from different price ranges in our 2024 rangefinder testing. Most of the best ones are in the $299-plus price range which puts them out of reach for some of us. Don’t despair! Here are some relatively inexpensive rangefinders that still give you some performance on the course.

Voice Caddie Laser FIT

The Voice Caddie Laser FIT is less than $200 and has slope integration and clear readings. One of our favorite features is the rechargeable battery. The battery lasts for eight hours.

This does not have a magnetic cart attachment. During our 2024 testing, the Laser FIT received a score of 9.2, which tied it with the Vortex Blade, Precision Pro NX10 and Precision Pro NX9.

For the price, the Voice Caddie Laser FIT has a lot to offer.

Shot Scope PRO L2

The Shot Scope PRO L2 finished just behind the Voice Caddie Laser Fit with a score of 9.1. However, it’s also about $70 cheaper. The Pro L2 offers a fast-speed vibration lock and very clear optics. However, it lacks some features of premium rangefinders. If you mostly care about the accuracy of the number (which you should), try the Shot Scope PRO L2.

PGA Tour-Level Etiquette The Average Golfer Doesn’t Follow

Here are MyGolfSpy, we support golf being played in any form.

Wear what you want. Play how you want. Be as informed about equipment as you want.

Consume the game in whatever form you feel is appropriate.

But it’s also worth acknowledging that when the game is played at a seriously high level—such as on the PGA Tour—the expectations for how you conduct yourself shift. Money and livelihoods are at stake. Naturally, there are unwritten rules that get followed to a higher standard than at your weekly league.

Here is an incomplete list of etiquette a Tour player follows that the average golfer (for the most part) ignores or doesn’t consider. I haven’t included any actual rules here—obviously recreational players tend to make up their own common sense rules—so all of these are in the etiquette category.

New to Pickleball? Check Out These Best-Selling Pickleball Paddles

I know what you’re thinking. Why the heck are you talking about pickleball? You’re a golf equipment website!

Have you walked into a PGA TOUR Superstore lately? Pickleball gear has its own section! Maybe the preppy country club you belong to finally got some courts. I’ve played at plenty of courses where the dinks and dunks of that little green whiffle ball being batted back and forth can be heard from every tee box and green.

Pickleball and golf go hand in hand. Both cater to a similar demographic and they’re sports that I consider “lifetime” activities, sports you can play for most of your life.

I have played more than I care to admit and even though I’d still get schooled by some random 60-year-old, I’ve gained a new appreciation for the sport.

Once you’ve tried it, it’s easy to see why it’s so addictive. It’s not dissimilar to golf. Understanding pickleball equipment and where to start will make your journey to pickleball stardom a much more rewarding experience.
