6 Underrated Golf Balls You Need To Try This Season

As golf season kicks in, you’re undoubtedly thinking about new equipment. You’ve probably even bought some already. While putting a new driver in play is always fun, don’t overlook the golf ball. As with every season, 2025 brings with it a plethora of new options but might I suggest there could be a not-so-new model you’ve overlooked?

Maybe it’s time to look again.

Before we start, a brief disclaimer. You won’t find things like the Titleist Pro V1, Pro V1x or even the new Callaway Chrome Tour Triple Diamond on this list. Those are the big guys and I’m working on the assumption you’re fully aware of those offerings and they’re probably already on your list of things to try.

There’s nothing wrong with sticking with the classics (there’s a reason why they’re so popular) but today I’m going to dig a little bit deeper to find options slightly outside the mainstream for performance-driven golfers. I won’t pretend we have data on everything but these are either on my list or would be if I was looking for something a little different than what I usually play.

With that, they might be worth a look for you, too.

The Masters Has Empanadas Now

There was no April Fools joke here, and thank God for that (unlike Tiger Woods, who is not playing in the Masters despite this post on X).

I was scrolling through Instagram on April 1 when, bam, there it was: the Masters empanada.

Immediately, everything was okay. All of my worries and concerns fell to the wayside, for the Masters empanada is here to save us all.

Technically the fine folks at Augusta National are calling this a “tomato pie”—a “Southern tradition” that will be making a “limited debut” at this year’s Masters (“limited debut” means it’s a soft launch and then staying with us forever, right? Right?).

adidas Gazelle Makes Its Debut On The Golf Course

adidas is having its moment. First it was the Samba, then the Superstar. Now, it’s Gazelle’s turn to hit the golf course.

The adidas Gazelle Golf shoe makes a long-awaited debut as a part of the new Original Golf collection. The popular training shoe-turned-streetwear staple has been retooled to make it course ready.

Luckily for fans of the OG Gazelle, the retooling is only in regards to performance. The sleek, streamlined aesthetics that make the Gazelle popular remain largely untouched.

No need to reinvent the wheel here. The Gazelle remains one of the stalwarts in adidas’s growing catalog of sneakers so it would be considered a big mistake to switch up now for the sake of golf.

Instead, the DNA of the Gazelle has been preserved. The only differences you’ll really notice come by way of traction (a slightly beefed up sole) and the waterproofness of the suede upper.

Top 10 Most-Watched YouTube Golf Videos In March

Here are the most-watched YouTube golf videos for March. Keep in mind that viewership totals are always changing so these numbers are estimates based on when this article was published.

Bob Does Sports dominated the rankings in February but March belonged to Grant Horvat. Four of the top five most-watched videos came from Grant Horvat Golf. And as always, Bryson managed to sneak in a few must-watch uploads of his own.

1. Can We Beat John Daly & His Son In A Golf Match?

Channel: Grant Horvat Golf Views: 2.5 million

Phil Mickelson and Grant Horvat take on John Daly and his son, John Daly Jr. In this two-versus-two 18-hole match, you’ll see how technical Phil Mickelson is and how much John Daly loves the opportunity to play golf with his son. For the second part of the match, you can switch to Phil’s channel and watch it here. (John Daly/Grant Horvat Match part two).

2. Can I Break A Random Course Record In One Try?

Channel: Bryson DeChambeauViews: 2.4 million

Can Bryson break the course record at Hackberry Creek in just one attempt? He takes on the challenge with bold shot choices, a new golf ball and a fast start. Having a month without Bryson at the top of the most-watched videos is rare.

3. Justin Thomas versus Grant Horvat

Channel: Grant Horvat Golf Views: 1.8 million

Justin Thomas joins the Grant Horvat Five Under Challenge and starts with a five-shot lead. With firm greens, creative shotmaking and a little trash talk, this competitive match heats up fast at a course JT helped design.

The Bridgestone Peach Reserve Collection Takes Augusta Limited Editions To A Whole New Level

As Augusta-themed Limited Editions go, you won’t find much better than The Bridgestone Peach Reserve Collection.

That is, maybe until Friday (he said in a not-so-subtle piece of foreshadowing).

These “first-major-of-the-year” limited editions are dropping fast and furious now that the big day is just over a week away. Bridgestone, along with COBRA and Vice, is one of the few companies that always packs some extra cool into its limited edition creations. We’re not going to say Bridgestone has outdone itself this year, but we can confirm the Bridgestone Peach Reserve Collection is, as they might say down in Georgia, purdy dadgum impressive.

Let’s take a look.

The Bridgestone Peach Reserve Collection

First off, I’d like to give Bridgestone an Augusta-back-nine-birdie high five for not going the Azalea route. Hey, I like flowers as much as the next guy, but c’mon, man; Azalea-related Augusta stuff has fallen into a giant vat of liquid cliché it can’t get out of. We can do better, people.

Gabby Golf Girl Is Growing The Game Her Own Way

If you’re unfamiliar with a 17-year old YouTuber named Gabby, I’ll let it slide for the moment.

After all, you’re a serious (well, semi-serious, anyway) person who only watches “respectable” golf YouTubers like Rick Shiels, Peter Finch and Bob Does Sports (I said “semi-serious”…), so why would you know about a teenager whose game is better than yours and who looks more like a fashion influencer than a golfer?

Well, all that’s about to change.

Who is Gabby Golf Girl?

Let’s catch your semi-serious self up to speed here.

Gabby DeGasperis is a teenager, a golfer, a wildly successful YouTube Creator/Instagram personality (nearly 1 million combined subscribers), and the owner of one of the fastest growing channels in all of YouTube.

Why Your Pre-Shot Routine Might Be Hurting Your Game (And How To Fix It)

The pre-shot routine is important. Watch any professional golfer and you’ll see them go through a routine before they take a swing. The routine can vary depending on the type of shot (tee shot, fairway, chip, putt, etc.) but they have a specific process they follow.

If you’ve ever wondered why your best range sessions never translate to the golf course or why you can’t play a consistent or steady round of golf, the answer may be in your pre-shot routine.

The pre-shot routine prepares you for a shot. It’s more than just aiming and a quick waggle. Here are some of the biggest pre-shot routine-related mistakes and practical tips to fix them.

You’re standing over the ball for a LONG time

The longer you stand over the ball (10, 15, 20 seconds), the more you invite the opportunity for second-guessing and tension buildup. A faster pre-shot routine is often better than a slow one.

In their book Golf’s 8-Second Secret, Mike Bender and Michael Mercier suggest that once a golfer steps into the shot, the actual execution should take about eight seconds.

How Often Do Golfers Three-Putt?

Let’s be honest: three-putts are frustrating. You do the hard work, find the fairway, hit the green in regulation and then give away a shot with a three-putt. To find out how common this mistake is, we asked Shot Scope to share some of their putting data. Spoiler alert: Three-putts happen more often than you might think.

How common is a three-putt in golf?

Here is a look at how often golfers three-putt according to handicap. The three-putt percentage shown is the percentage of three-putts per round.

HandicapThree-Putt %Holes Per 3-PuttAvg. 2nd Putt Distance (ft)
56%16.77.9
1511%9.78.0
2513%7.68.2

Higher-handicaps three-putt more frequently

The higher-handicap golfers three-putt more often than the lower-handicap players. We saw that one coming.

The average five-handicap golfer three-putts about once per round. The 25-handicap golfer three-putts two or three times per round.

Higher-handicap golfers often struggle with speed control on longer putts. This issue is compounded by the location of the higher-handicappers’ approach shots which are often 40 or more feet from the pin.

Did You Know Toptracer Could Do This?

Near the top of the Coolest Things I Saw at the PGA Show list was the Toptracer demo range. I thought all Toptracer did was give you very basic launch data and a cool tracer for each shot.

As my wife likes to say, “Wrong again, honey.”

Toptracer, the driving range technology owned by Topgolf Callaway, actually has some pretty cool capabilities beyond just tracing your shots. It has an aggressive game mode, so your kids can play Angry Birds while you’re trying to straighten out your slice.

But what’s really cool is its classic course simulation mode.

You can, for example, get a foursome together at a nearby Toptracer-equipped driving range and play Pebble Beach.

Callaway Elyte Mini, TD Max and TD Tour Draw drivers | 4 things to know

Callaway just dropped three new drivers. Here are four things to know about the Callaway Elyte Mini, TD Max and TD Tour Draw drivers.

The post Callaway Elyte Mini, TD Max and TD Tour Draw drivers | 4 things to know appeared first on Golf.

One We Saw Coming. One We Didn’t. Callaway Drops Two New Elyte Triple Diamond Drivers

Look alive, gearheads—Callaway just dropped two new members into the Elyte driver family. One you probably saw coming from a mile away while the other might raise an eyebrow or two.

Elyte Triple Diamond Max

First up is the Elyte Triple Diamond Max, a club whose arrival was inevitable after last year’s runaway success. When the Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max landed last year, it exceeded expectations. Callaway had to scramble with reorders just to keep pace with higher-than-anticipated demand.

Worth mentioning: it wasn’t just weekend warriors who took to the TD Max. By season’s end, it had become Callaway’s most-played driver on the PGA Tour.

Go figure.

So, yeah, there was approximately zero chance we weren’t getting an Elyte Triple Diamond Max this time around.

Does Size Matter? Callaway Drops Elyte Mini Driver

We’ve been talking about mini drivers quite a bit already this year. We’ve covered why you might want a mini driver and why you might want to consider an alternative. We’ve written about the PXG Secret Weapon and the Titleist GT280.

I’m confident more are coming.

The latest mini to hit the market is the Callaway Elyte Mini Driver. That’s the entirety of the name. I appreciate the simplicity but also, after last year’s Paradym Ai Smoke Ti340 Mini, I feel a little shortchanged. Slackers.

The Elyte Mini backstory

As you’re likely aware by now, the recently invigorated mini driver category is absolutely exploding and I can tell you from recent conversations that everyday golfers are intrigued, if not excited.

I’m not saying everybody is going to buy a mini driver but with so many companies entering the mix, awareness has never been higher.

Dining at Augusta National? Here's what that 'extraordinary' experience is like

If you think Augusta National is meticulous about course conditions, imagine what it's like to sit down for a meal in the dining room there.

50 years later, we've still never seen anything quite like the 1975 Masters

Jack Nicklaus' fifth title at Augusta made the 1975 Masters the original “Best Masters Ever.” The panorama of high drama lingers still.

PGA Tour Superstore Just Solved The No. 1 Fitting Pain Point

Imagine, for a second, you’re packing for that once-in-a-lifetime buddies trip. Maybe Bandon, or perhaps heading over to the Home of Golf. It doesn’t matter where. You’re just excited to get there and slap a few balls around with your buddies.

The only problem? You put a little too much weight onto your custom fit driver while you’re smooth-talking your spouse into letting you stay a couple extra days.

Snap! There goes your driver (and with it, the dream of taking money from your buddies).

There’s no way you can go on this trip without your driver … but there’s no way you can get fit for one AND get it built in time. Right?

Wrong. PGA Tour Superstore has taken perhaps the biggest pain point about custom fitting and flipped it on its head. Custom golf clubs usually take weeks, even months to build. With PGA Tour Superstore’s Fit & Go program, golfers can walk out of the store with a custom fit driver that same day, upgraded shaft, grip and all.
