Did Bridgestone Just Create A Golf Ball Exclusively For Juniors?

You can say many things pro and con about Bridgestone Golf but there’s one thing you can’t say and still be taken seriously.

You can’t say that Bridgestone, as a company, is sitting on its hands.

In support of the preceding declaration, I submit to you today’s launch of the Bridgestone Electron, the company’s first-ever golf ball designed specifically for juniors.

“It’s designed to help younger players launch the ball more easily and have more fun playing golf,” said Bridgestone CEO Dan Murphy in a prepared statement. “We’re proud to have used our (ball fitting) data to develop the Electron specifically to meet the needs of junior players.”

We’re not sure whether it’s the first ball that’s ever been designed specifically for juniors but we do know for a fact it’s the first one that’s being launched today. (This is called investigative journalism.)

Bridgestone Electron and First Tee

Bridgestone developed the new Electron in partnership with the youth-golf program First Tee. The Electron will feature First Tee-inspired messaging printed on each ball. In a bit of a surprise, Bridgestone and First Tee are bringing a third partner into the Electron collaboration. The new ball will be available exclusively at DICK’S Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy.

Bridgestone’s new Electron is about as simple as a golf ball can get. It’s a low-compression, two-piece ionomer-covered ball that combines soft feel with a shallow dimple pattern. The idea is to give juniors a soft feel with a dimple package that promotes high launch and maximum carry for their moderate swing speeds.

Coming in at $21.99 per dozen, it’s fair to ask what makes the Electron different from, say, the Bridgestone E6 Soft at $23.99 or the Lady Precept at $24.99?  According to Bridgestone, it’s the fact that the company has used its ball fitting data to make this ball specific to the needs of juniors. At $21.99 per dozen, we can’t imagine Bridgestone dedicated a ton of research and engineering muscle to the Electron beyond finding a dimple pattern that works best for the young ‘uns.

That doesn’t mean the Electron isn’t worth doing for Bridgestone. The junior game continues to grow post-COVID. Youth participation is up 48 percent since 2019 and it grew a full six percent in 2024 alone. During that time, Bridgestone says it performed ball fittings for a “substantial number of junior players.” Those fittings provided Bridgestone with the data it needed to create the Electron.

How different that ball is from Bridgestone’s other soft, two-piece balls is an open question.

Bridgestone adds another limited edition, too

The Electron release comes on the heels of Bridgestone’s latest limited edition golf ball offering, the Patriot Pack.

For the 15th straight year, Bridgestone is teaming with Tee It Up for the Troops for the Patriot Pack, a limited-edition, star-spangled 15-pack of the new e12 STRAIGHT golf balls in a flag-draped box.

Bridgestone is donating a portion of Patriot Pack proceeds to Tee It Up for the Troops, a national non-profit organization supporting programs and services for military veterans. It has raised more than $17 million since its inception in 2005. Additionally, Tee It Up for the Troops holds 800 charity golf events in 40 states every year.

The Patriot Pack is Bridgestone’s annual pre-Memorial Day limited-edition release. The new e12 STRAIGHT is a three-piece ionomer ball released this past January. It’s also low compression, designed for low spin off the tee to minimize hooks and slices.

Bridgestone Electron and Patriot Pack pricing and availability

The Bridgestone Patriot Pack has been on sale for the past week on the Bridgestone website and at select retailers. The 15-ball pack sells for $34.99, the same as a standard e12 STRAIGHT 12-pack.

The new Bridgestone Electron golf balls are in white only but with blue, purple, green and orange face-mark coloring. Each ball is imprinted with one of the First Tee’s core concepts: Kindness, Honesty, Respect, Character.

The Bridgestone Electron costs $21.99 per dozen. They are available exclusively at DICK’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy.
