First Look: Air Jordan 12 Low “Playoffs”

What’s in a Name?

Originally worn by Michael Jordan in some of his biggest moments on the court, the Air Jordan 12 Low “Playoffs” are now ready for your biggest moments on the course.

Introducing the Air Jordan 12 Low “Playoffs” golf shoes, the newest addition to Jordan Brand’s lineup of nostalgic golf shoes inspired by one of basketball’s greatest.

The Air Jordan 12 Low model is nothing new but this pair is special. This unassuming black-and-white Jordan Brand golf shoe has a story behind it.

So what’s in a name? For the Air Jordan 12 Low “Playoffs”, the name is what separates it from the myriad of other golf shoes. To understand what makes this shoe unique, we need to first understand its history.

Winning Heritage

MJ in the Jordan 12 Playoffs

The Air Jordan 12 made its basketball debut in 1996. This exact same black-and-white colorway, dubbed “Playoffs”, was worn by Michael Jordan as the Chicago Bulls battled their way to the 1997 NBA Championship title, besting my hometown Utah Jazz.

Fast forward to now: that same iconic “Playoffs” colorway has made its way onto a golf shoe. Simply put, this shoe is for winners.

The way I see it, you’re not just getting a golf shoe—you’re getting a shoe with a history rich in grit and eventual triumph, two things we could all use a little more of on the golf course.

The Rundown

The Air Jordan 12 Low “Playoffs” golf shoe will release at NIKE on Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. ET. You must be a NIKE member to purchase. Good news! Membership  is free. Retail is set at $220

The Tech

Traction of the AJ12 Low Golf

Not only does the Air Jordan 12 Low look good but it’s packed full of the same technology found in its basketball-equipped sibling.

Let’s talk cushion. This shoe features a full-length Zoom Air unit for outstanding energy return and underfoot comfort. This is the same cushion setup found in the non-golf Air Jordan 12 … so, if it’s good enough for the hardwood, it’s surely comfortable enough for the fairway.

As far as traction, the AJ12 Low has seven removable spikes. This traction setup allowed NIKE to maintain the original look of the sole. The herringbone traction and carbon-fiber shank plate from the OG pair can be seen underneath the seven golf spikes.

For Whom is the Air Jordan 12 Low?

The Air Jordan 12 Low is for anyone who wants it. If you like how it looks or love the story behind it, then this shoe is for you!

For the Love of 18

I’ll end with this. Check out the phrase that adorns the back tab. It reads “For the Love of 18.” That, my friends, is really what this shoe is about.

The Air Jordan 12 Low “Playoffs” don’t promise better scores. Instead, they hold strong to the idea that golf should be about finding joy in the journey, relishing the  thrill of finding a fairway … and agonizing in the defeat of that inevitable three-putt.
