I Can’t Stop Wearing: Sun Mountain Knockdown Vest
Let’s get this out of the way first.
I’ve never been a vest guy. I can’t remember a time that I’ve ever worn one on the golf course. But, after spending days in the Sun Mountain Knockdown vest, I think I might be converted.
Yeah, I’m a vest guy now. Deal with it.
And yes, THAT Sun Mountain. The one who created one of the most iconic golf bags of all-time? If the C-130 is a damn good bag, the Knockdown vest is equally as good.
When I looked at the weather forecast this week for my scheduled round on Pinehurst No. 2, I knew right away that it would be a vest kind of day.
I run hot, so jackets don’t work for me on the course. As soon as I start walking around looking for the ball that I inevitably hook into the woods, I’m toast. Which is why a vest is so perfect for me.
Walking the 18 holes on Pinehurst No. 2 made it very clear to me that the vest is probably one of the more underrated garments in golf. And, the Knockaroud vest from Sun Mountain has to be one of the best.
I honestly had a hard time finding anything to dislike about it.
It was warm, but not too warm. It’s filled with down, so my core body temp stayed on par even while my game continued to decline after each unsuccessful full chip onto those nasty turtleback greens.
The round started at about 40 degrees and finished near 50. Honestly, it was the ideal temp for a vest of this weight, size and warmth.
But the thing I loved the most about it? No distractions. It didn’t create that distinct “swishy” sound that you get from some outerwear pieces. You know what I’m talking about, right? You can hear their arms brushing against their torso from holes away. Not with this vest.
To go along with the quiet material, the stretch of said material is great too. Completely free of restriction, at least in my experience.
What’s not to like?
While I’m not a fan of the near $200 price point, I can understand the value it provides. Lightweight warmth for the course AND it looks good enough to wear off the course.
The Knockdown Vest is available at Sun Mountain, Golf Galaxy, and select golf courses near you.
What I’m Wearing With It
Just like you had no idea Sun Mountain makes apparel, you probably didn’t know they just dropped a golf shoe, too!
Sun Mountain teamed up with upstart golf brand Alma Mater, for a slick collab on their Beta Light golf shoe.
I’ve worn them a few times now and can honestly say, it’s a darkhorse in next year’s golf shoe test. Comfortable, stable and light. Plus, that teal and purple colorway stems from an OG Sun Mountain bag.
Pretty damn cool.
