Malbon’s New Holiday Line Just Dropped (And It’s a Banger)

Malbon’s new holiday line just landed, and Malbon leaned fully into what they do best: go big or go home. Apropos of the holiday season, they’re leaning into the colours and patterns of Christmas: white, green, red, Fair Isle, and, of course, tartan. This collection is downright sick and is a perfect gifting opportunity for a loved one or for yourself. Like just about everything else Malbon makes, these pieces are great because they’re unique and can easily be worn to a Christmas party, while lounging around at home, or pretty much anywhere else. Here are a couple of my favourite drops from their holiday lineup.

Fesque Preston Hoodie

I’m of the generation of the Gap hoodie being cool, and I couldn’t be happier that they’re back in style, but that other brands have now captured the same essence and are equally if not more cool. Malbon’s Fesque Preston Hoodie combines three things I love: hunter green, the look of the classic Gap hoodie, and tartan (I am a sucker for anything remotely related to Scottish culture). This hoodie is the definition of versatile, and I know for a fact I’d wear this thing with a pair of chinos, and yes, a button down shirt underneath(!!!). You can and should dress this thing to the nines this holiday season.

Acme Holiday Mug

I’ve been called “preppy” buy some staff members here at MyGolfSpy, and maybe they’re right. That being said, while I’m not the biggest NYC fan, one of my favorite spots in the city is Ralph’s Coffee (I will let you be the judge if I’m preppy or not). This mug and saucer set really, and I mean really reminds me of Ralph’s in the best way possible. This is also the perfect hot chocolate mug. Imagine yourself sitting by the fire with this mug filled with quality hot chocolate and giant dollop of whipped cream… It can’t get much better.

Mistleflow Dad Hat

It’s funny, this is becoming quite a bit expositional, but there’s a menswear shop on East 44th called J.Press, and I started shopping there in college. One of their classic pieces is the “Shaggy Dog” sweater— a thick sweater made of Shetland wool that keeps you warm on the absolute coldest of days. It’s an iconic piece, worn by the likes of Cary Grant and JFK. A couple of years ago, they released a Shaggy Dog hat, and I lamented that they never released it in green. Alas, we find years of longing remedied. The Malbon Mistleflow Dad Hat is a wool baseball cap that almost looks like corduroy and is wonderfully Shaggy Dog-esque. Wear it to cut down your tree, out for a night on the town, wherever, and you’ll look perfectly cool, clean, and Christmassy. Who knows, you may even catch yourself a kiss.

Douglas Fair Isle Socks

If you don’t know much about Fair Isle, it’s time you learn. You’ve inevitably seen the pattern before, especially at Christmas time, but Fair Isle is not just a pattern, it’s also a place. Situated off of mainland Scotland in the Shetland Isles, Fair Isle is both an island and a knitting technique that’s practically given an island its entire identity. If you couldn’t tell, I’m a huge Fair Isle fan, and while the Douglas Fair Isle Socks aren’t knitted in the Shetland Isles, they allow you to capture the essence of a Fair Isle jumper without being too loud. These say enough and allow the layers of your outfit to do the talking.

Bennet Plaid Sweater

For me, it’s difficult to think of Christmas without thinking of Nat King Cole, who, in my opinion, is the very voice of the holiday season. The Malbon Bennet Plaid Sweater is a 1960s throwback, and that’s a good thing because it bridges modernity with retro style in a tasteful way. While they’re not all that close, this is absolutely something I could see Nat wearing, and, for whatever reason, it reminds me of his album cover for “The Christmas Song.” Throw on a green mock turtleneck underneath this, and you’re channeling your inner Jason Day, Tiger Woods, and Nat King Cole all at once (bet you didn’t have that combo on your bingo card).
