I’m not going to sit here and tell you that I’m deeply experienced with the MILESEEY rangefinder catalog. Frankly, I’m not even sure I know how to pronounce the name. In fact, I hadn’t heard of the brand until I happened upon their booth at the PGA Show and, even then, I might have rolled my eyes at the GenePro S1 – a $799 offering billed as the #1 AI Golf Rangefinder.
Is there a #2 AI Golf Rangefinder I should consider for a couple of hundred bucks less? Perhaps one that doesn’t silently judge my club selection and text my spouse after my second transfusion?
Anyway, while I was initially dismissive of MILESEEY (Why are we screaming? Did they forget to turn off caps lock during brand development?), I will concede that the product line is intriguing, even for golfers not willing to drop “my kid’s first semester of college” money on a rangefinder.
As we’ve often said, the existence of premium-priced products in the marketplace does not mean there aren’t more affordable options to choose from (even if we all want the expensive stuff like moths drawn to financially irresponsible flames).
You can actually afford something
Its entry-level PF260 is priced at just $99. It can lock on to a flag at 350 yards (with vibration) and has a slope function. For another $20, you can get it with a Bite Magnetic mount. At that price, it’s almost disposable. Accidentally drop it in a water hazard and you might actually find it cheaper to buy a new one than risk falling in and ruining your $125 PXG shorts (Ka-splash, baby!).
As price increases, so does the feature set and once you hit the $299 mark and the PF1 Pro, you get Point-to-Point measure which, like the CaddyTalk feature, allows you to get a distance to the flag from your cart or anywhere else.
It’s perfect for those situations where you don’t have line of sight from your ball to the hole (maybe stop hitting your tee shot into the tree line?) or those cart path-only days where you have to choose between not knowing your distance or leaving your rangefinder in the fairway (and doubling back from the next hole to find it … again … for the third time this round).
The New MILESEEY GenePro G1
In the case of the MILESEEY GenePro G1, we’re talking about a 2.13-inch AMOLED touchscreen which is plenty large and plenty fancy. A wealth of information is available by thumbing through the display options like it was an Apple Watch.
If that wasn’t enough, the GenePro G1 can be paired to the MILESEEY Golf App for detailed personalized stat tracking.
Priced to move
The MILESEEY GenePro G1 looks to be one of the more complete rangefinder offerings I’ve seen and here’s the kicker: the G1 is being introduced via a Kickstarter campaign. For the earliest adopters, it’s priced at what feels like a legitimately low price – less than what most of us have spent on a single round at a premium course or approximately three trips to the halfway house if your foursome is hungry.
A $50 deposit is required but that seems like a small price to pay for not having to pay a higher price later.
The introductory price is good until June 2. After that, prices go up. The full retail price will be $498.
Admittedly, jumping in early is a bit of a risk but, on paper, the MILESEEY GenePro G1 looks like an outstanding premium option that you can, for a limited time, pick up for a less-than-premium price.
