The Big Break Is Finally Coming Back
The cult classic Golf Channel show “Big Break” is coming back in 2026.
Golf’s version of a reality TV show ran from 2003 to 2015 before leaving the air due to budget cuts. It is arguably the most creative and interesting original programming Golf Channel has produced in its 30-year history.
For my money, Big Break was a huge reason to flip on Golf Channel back in the day. It was captivating TV during the show’s peak as we got to see future stars like Tony Finau, Matt Every, Wesley Bryan, Tommy Gainey, Richy Werenski and Gerina Piller get introduced. There was often Survivor-like drama involved as players were put into niche pressure situations you would never see in a normal golf tournament.
The fact it’s been gone for a decade is symbolic of how Golf Channel has been totally gutted by NBC, so this is a happy surprise to get it back.
This new version of the show will air in August 2026 in partnership with Good Good, the YouTube channel-turned-influencer brand that has been everywhere recently (including the sponsorship of a new PGA Tour event next fall).
The Good Good Championship event will hold an invite for the winner of this Big Break, which is taking place in Austin, Texas.
Good Good members Brad Dalke, the 2016 U.S. Amateur runner-up who helped Oklahoma to the 2017 NCAA team title, and Sean Walsh, a Gonzaga alum, will be two of the 12 competitors in the new Big Break season. The remaining contestants will be selected at a later date.
We saw Dalke and Walsh battling it out in the Creator Classic this past August.
Blair O’Neal, a former Big Break runner-up and Golf Channel personality, is serving as co-host with Good Good’s Matt Scharff, while Good Good’s Garrett Clark and Bubbie Broders will be non-playing team captains. The same executive producer Big Break had in its original incarnation (Chris Graham) will be returning.
“Bringing back Big Break in partnership with Good Good Golf is as good as it gets,” said Tom Knapp, EVP and General Manager of Golf Channel. “Big Break is a Golf Channel institution which defined golf reality entertainment. Good Good Golf is creating today’s version of golf entertainment and has redefined what ‘reality’ content really is. These two golf content brands will be a very powerful combination.”
Golf lacks non-event original programming on TV so, hopefully, Good Good can bring some of their YouTube magic to Golf Channel.
I also love this idea for a Tour exemption, especially when we are talking about a fall event nobody would be watching otherwise.
Honestly, I am more interested in watching Big Break than a lot of YouTube channels. I would even pick it over TGL in many cases.
It will be interesting to see how viewerships fares. There will be commercials and it won’t be released all at once but I can still see the golf community rallying around it enough for it to be successful.
Will you be watching Big Break next year? Let me know below in the comments.
