When one comes to the quality of the bunkers and other hazards we pass into realm of much dispute and argument. Primarily bunkers should be sand bunkers purely, not composed of gravel, stones or dirt. Whether this or that bunker is well placed, has caused more intensely heated arguments outside of the realms of religion, than has ever been my lot to listen to. C.B. MACDONALD

Generate More Success with Realistic Goals
Sports Illustrated’ s weekly blog: GOLF.com, recently had a great idea to improve our games. Just set some achievable positive goals before every round. That will help you enjoy your great shots and disregard your worm burners and shanks without setting a grenade off in your butt.
The enjoyment of golf is about setting goals that bring you energy and fun. When you’re having more fun you’re in a happy place. Ben Hogan, one of the greatest champions in the history of the game, said he was happy to hit just one or two perfect shots per round. He said that everyone — from high-handicappers to scratch players — would be wise to play the game that way.
Julie Elion is a mental-game guru, who reminded us of Bobby Jones’ quote: “Golf is a game that’s played on a five-inch course — the distance between your ears,” She found that the mind is the most daunting hazard out there on any course.
Set Your Goals
Julie helps golfers identify their personal goals before every event. The most common theme is CONSCIOUS POSITIVE INTENTIONS. All it takes is a simple message — distilled into a few easy-to-remember lines. Positive goals play better than those who play with fear of negative outcomes. An obsessive insight and analysis about a problem seldom results in a winning putt. Focus on your target Negative thoughts based on avoidance cause a bad case of energy drain.
Knowledge of a relevant hazard is useful, but it’s not a goal. Positivity is paramount. Elite athletes, like Scottie Scheffler with an optimal mental attitude are the ones who end up pulling away from the pack.

Limited-Edition Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Tactical Driver
Available for pre-sale today are a pair of new Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke drivers. More specifically, they’re limited-edition Paradym Ai Smoke Tactical drivers.
That means they’re the same Paradym Ai Smoke Max and Triple Diamond drivers you already know (and maybe love) but a good bit of the cosmetics is green.
That’s fun, right?
Con or Cool?
There are a couple of ways you can look at this.
First, these mid- (or, in this case, early- to mid-) season limited-edition releases are overplayed. The differences are largely, if not entirely, cosmetic. The upcharges are hard to justify and when you’re willing to eat the additional cost, it can be a real gut punch if you’ve already bought one and you like the new colorway better.

10 Lessons Learned From Switching To A Broomstick
A couple of months ago, I switched to a broomstick putter. The results have been mostly good, with some ups and downs, mainly due to a lack of instructional information beyond the basic “this is how you hold a broomstick.” As I went through the learning process, I’ve gained some knowledge on switching, mostly the undocumented things that no one else tells you.
If you have any questions or other learnings, feel free to let me know. I’m not professing to be an expert and I’d welcome anyone to correct me on anything I post. It’s a little long so I apologize if you can’t get through the whole thing or use it as bedtime reading to help yourself get to sleep.
1. It’s nothing like normal putting
This may seem obvious to some but I didn’t realize it was that different. Switching to a broomstick is hard work. The problem is exacerbated by the flawed perspective we get from YouTube and the internet.
When you watch some YouTuber testing a broomstick, it seems like it all comes naturally. You don’t see the 12 practice putts that were bad before the one that was shown. Bad putts don’t sell referral links and discount codes to putter sales, and many of these youtubers rely on referrals from discounts to help fund their channels.
2. Grip is more than just comfort
When I started putting with a broom, the initial results were really good: 28 putts good. I won a monthly medal. After about a month, I made a grip change from claw to pencil because it felt more comfortable.

Forum Member Review: PING s159 Wedges
Introduction
PING revamped their wedges this year and introduced the s159 series, moving on from the previous Glide wedges. In MyGolfSpy wedge testing, PING has consistently performed well and excelled in wet conditions. The Glide series of wedges were known for having more spin when wet which was previously unheard of. The PING s159 wedges include much of the same technology but gone is the slight cavity-back design, resulting in a more traditional-looking wedge. We wanted to get these wedges in the hands of our testers to see how they would perform in a variety of conditions. Finally, we wanted to see if that legendary wet spin characteristic still exists.
The Testing Opportunity
PING has also introduced their WedgeFit app to help simplify the process of wedge fitting for consumers. PING WebFit uses a series of simple questions that follow the same process their fitters use to dial in what lofts, grinds and shafts you should be using.
We selected four testers for this opportunity to receive the wedges they were fitted for by the WebFit app. They had the choice of finish (Hydropearl 2.0 Chrome or Midnight) as well as shaft and grip options.
Once they had completed the WebFit app, the orders were placed and they began testing.
From The Testers: First Impressions
We always mention how important first impressions are. Testers are excited to get the product in their hands and often look at even the most minute details upon arrival. Let’s see what our testers had to say when they got their PING s159 wedges.

Halcyon Golf Travel: Making Dream Golf Vacations Come True
For many of us, thinking back to the halcyon days of our past means summoning memories of our favorite days on the golf course. Sometimes that means recalling that day we hit the drive of our lives or the round where we finally shot that elusive low score we’ve been aiming for. Maybe it’s not based on our golf shots at all — sometimes the best days of our golfing lives are simply the ones spent with our best friends, knocking back a few cold ones in the clubhouse after a marathon 36-hole day or laughing about how everyone got soaked during that torrential downpour on the back nine. For the team at Halcyon Golf Travel, their goal is to summon all of the above, crafting golf trips that you’ll never forget — ones that will become halcyon days of their own.
Started in 2018 by Jack Sallis, a lifelong golfer and sage student of the UK golf landscape, Halcyon Golf Travel helps golfers from all over the world plan and execute the golf trip of their dreams. Halcyon can plan and execute just about any UK- or Ireland-based golf trip you can dream up, whether that means hitting the region’s most famous courses or venturing off the beaten path. Prestigious Scottish institutions like The Old Course, Royal Troon, and Carnoustie are right in Halcyon’s wheelhouse — their sample Claret Jug Tour itinerary is a perfect example of how to hit the British Isles’ most well-known tracks all in one go — but Halcyon sets itself apart with its intimate knowledge of courses both big and small.
Having represented England as a junior and maintained a more-than-impressive +4 handicap well into adulthood, Sallis has spent close to 30 years playing hundreds of courses across England, Scotland, and Ireland. This intimate experience comes in handy when helping Halcyon clients whip up their dream trip. He and his bookings manager, Lee Shepherd, can get tee times at Royal County Down & Royal Portrush, but sometimes visiting the busiest, most challenging, most expensive courses isn’t what a group is looking for. Halcyon loves planning trips that venture to some of the area’s other spectacular, if lesser known, courses and villages. They’ll tailor a trip to any handicap, any budget, and any interest a group might have.
Seriously, Halcyon can and will set up just about any experience you can think of. If your group loves English Premier League football (er…soccer), they’ll plan a trip around it. Want to explore London and play some of the underrated golf in the country? They’ll set you up on a trip that lets you play the finest courses in the London area while leaving plenty of time for you to explore the English capital. Not only can they tailor a trip to your exact preferences, but they’ll facilitate some luxury experiences that take things to the next level. Helicopter rides between courses, whiskey tastings, a masterclass from a major champion — Halcyon can do a lot more than make tee times and reserve hotels. And this is precisely why you should choose them for your dream golf trip.
So get your buddies together and draft up the golf vacation of your wildest dreams; Halcyon Golf Travel is there every step of the way.
