Odyssey is releasing an Arm Lock version of their 2-Ball Ten and some of you should be excited. No, not all of you need be excited. Most of you should be content with the standard version of the Odyssey Ten that placed second in this year’s Most Wanted Mallet competition. The multi-material, high MOI Ten putters are one of the year’s strongest mallet releases. Pros and amateurs alike are blissfully bagging Tens across the globe.

So who should be excited then?

Do you have a buddy that struggles putting with a standard-length putter? When you watch them putt, does it look like they are holding a live snake by the tail? Do they have more yips than a pail of Pomeranians? That’s who should be excited.

Arm lock putting has long been viewed as the answer to the anchor ban. That ban removed brooms and bellies from the putting conversation. As necessity is the mother of invention, those with shaky shafts were forced to move to the arm.

The paint-it-black line extension is nothing new to the golf equipment world. Club manufacturers often use black paint (PVD anyway) to keep product fresh into its second season on the shelves. It’s less typical for an accessory company to launch an all-black version of its product but that’s exactly what’s happening with the limited-release Arccos Black Edition Link wearable.

About the Arccos Black Edition Link

If you’re new to the Arccos Link wearable, the quick version of the story is that it’s a small, ultralight device that clips to your pocket or belt. It serves as an intermediary between your Arccos sensors and your phone, allowing successful shot tracking without the need to keep your phone in your pocket or wear a watch. The new version does the same thing, except its black.

The Arccos Black Edition Link is functionally identical to the green and black version already on shelves. The single button manages power and allows you to mark the location of the hole. I would have loved to see some added features (double-tap to add a putt is high on my list) but, even without any new enhancements, I suppose the all-black version could hold some appeal for golfers who want a less visible link or felt the green accents on the standard model clashed with their apparel scripting.

As with the majority of limited-edition releases, this one isn’t going to set the world on fire but, if you’ve been on the fence about Arccos Caddie Link, maybe the launch of a Black Edition will be just enough to push you over the fence.

Your goal should be to remove the thought clutter out of your brain during your SETUP so that you can execute the perfect shot. You have plenty of time to organize your thoughts during your setup so spend that time wisely to clean up your brain for the 2 seconds that count.

I recently watched a swing simplification video by TopSpeedGolf. That video summarized the components of a swing that should create the perfect shot. It all comes down to choosing the right club and executing the swing path when you clear your brain for a simple swing. Review and practice the following check list to simplify your swing plan during your setup to make each shot with confidence.

1/ Center-Line Impact: The impact on your club face should be on the center line of your club face. This should not be a thought in your mind as you should have tested your impact point for each type of club (Driver, Woods and Irons). Your arms may stretch out for some of your clubs or your leading arm may never straighten out so you should setup knowing what to expect for each of your clubs. You should test all of your clubs by spraying Dr. Scholl’s Foot Powder on the face of your clubs to determine the ideal stance center impact on every club in your bag.

2/ Square Face at Impact: In general you want a square face at impact (or slightly closed for a draw or slightly open for a fade). You know what shot you are trying to hit so your grip and stance should be adjusted accordingly during your setup to make each shot. Your grip should be out of your mind during your swing.

3/ Driver Setup: You should be launching your ball in an upward trajectory so the ground level is not a concern in your mind. Slope your trailing shoulder down so that you will drive your ball upwards at about a 4 degree angle. The loft of your club will take care of the elevation of your ball.

Women’s Golf Day 2021

A group of 30 women was among those celebrating International Women’s Golf Day by getting in a round of golf at Poppy HIlls Golf Course in Pebble Beach. Up at Poppy Ridge GC in Livermore Wine Country, nearly 50 women got in holes to celebrate the day. The day was celebrated at a number of facilities in the NorCal region.

Founded in 2016, Women’s Golf Day is a collaborative effort by a dedicated team, golf management companies, retailers and golf organizations and governing bodies all working together to Engage, Empower and Support girls and women through golf. Since its inception, WGD has been engaging participants from around the globe irrespective of race, religion, language, ethnicity, or geography and continues to see an increase year after year. WGD encourages participating locations to have a charitable component. WGD has a global impact from collective grassroots local events.
The one-day, four-hour event is rypically held the first Tuesday in June each year. Women’s Golf Day offers a simple and accessible platform from which players can build or deepen a foundation interest in golf. WGD supports the creation of a network to support the continuation of golf no matter what skill level.

In past years, festivities at both Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge have included clinics on everything from putting and driving to fitness. The clinics were scrapped this year due to COVID-19.

Rule of the Month: The Ball

Topic Overview:

Generally, you will hole out with the same ball you play from the teeing area. You can always use a new ball when starting a hole. You can also substitute a different ball any time you are taking relief, including both free and penalty relief. Unless the one-ball Local Rule is in effect, the substituted ball could be any brand. On the putting green however, when you mark and lift your ball, you must replace that same ball to finish out the hole.

When your ball is lifted, you can almost always clean it (except for a few specific circumstances). If you happen to run out of balls, you can borrow one from any other player, including a practice or X-Out ball (which are generally conforming balls).

If you play a wrong ball, you lose the hole in match play or get a two-stroke penalty in stroke play. In stroke play, you must correct your mistake by playing the right ball or otherwise playing under the Rules (for example, by playing under stroke and distance if your ball is lost).
