There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.
TaylorMade MySpider Tour Custom putter interface – The online design interface that allows golfers to create customized versions of TaylorMade’s new Spider Tour and Spider Tour X putters.
Dave Wolfe – MyGolfSpy writer and putter fanatic. I’ve tested hundreds (maybe thousands) of flatsticks.
When TaylorMade releases a new line of Spider putters, like the new Spider Tour line last fall, it’s a safe bet they will also launch a new MySpider program. For the uninitiated, TaylorMade’s MySpider program allows golfers to build their own custom versions of the current Spider mallet putter.
What can you customize? Users can configure a myriad of design elements to create the putter that best suits their needs. Pick the neck, the alignment scheme, the physical specs like length, loft, and lie, and then paint it in whatever way that makes you happy. This is not HisSpider, HerSpider or TheirSpider. It’s YourSpider.
There is little doubt Zebra has made some iconic and distinctive putters. In 2020, Golf Brands Inc. acquired Zebra Golf with a mission to restore the iconic brand, bringing in legendary putter designer Austie Rollinson.
This Forum testing opportunity aimed to highlight this comeback and allow our testers to see how these putters perform.
Zebra produces four different putter models: AIT 1, AIT 2, AIT 3 and AIT 4. These, in Zebra’s words, are “leveraging our iconic design heritage, including the major-winning striped alignment system, our new range features four modern head shapes to suit every putting stroke and every type of golfer.”
We selected four Forum members to each choose one of the new models. These testers were to give their honest opinions throughout their review and inform our community on how they perform.
The Zebra AIT 1 was tested by LinksgolfFever. “It was a bit larger than expected/than I am used to playing, but it does grow on you (In a good way). I like the contrast between the bold lines on the club head and the subtle designs like the ghost zebra print on the sole.”
New faces, consistent winners and the same off-the-course legal and financial intrigue between rival tours highlight the past year in golf.

Is a SkyTrak+ launch monitor on your Christmas list?
Better check your naughty or nice status. Santa could have some tough decisions to make.
“We’re running a little short because we’ve sold way more than we forecasted for the holiday season,” says Nick Clearwater, GOLFTEC’s Vice-President of Instruction and one of the world’s top swing coaches.
“Our integrations into our facilities have slowed down so hopefully things are evening out on the inventory side. We know a lot of golfers are hoping a SkyTrak+ winds up under the Christmas tree.”
Can’t really blame them.
Now that the days are shorter and colder (for most of us anyway), you’ll probably be spending more time working on your game inside. But just because you aren’t able to get out to play and practice as much outdoors, it doesn’t mean that you can’t continue to improve.
In this week’s lesson, I’m going to cover 10 Winter Training for Golf activities to keep improving your skills ahead of the season starting again in the spring.
Ongoing reflection is an important part of the game improvement process, and your year-round review is probably your most important one.
Did you set goals for 2023? If so, how many of them did you achieve? Take yourself back to some of your best rounds and celebrate your successes and improvements in your game. Why do you think you were able to make progress? Reinforce what’s working for you.
For those goals that you didn’t achieve, why do you think you weren’t able to do so? Was it that those goals were too ambitious? That you weren’t motivated enough to put in the work? Or did you not work on the right things or in the right way?

Shapotomous discussed how other sports approach professional versus amateur play: “I never really understood the distress over bifurcation. Most sports have rules and equipment differences between professional and non-professional ranks, between men’s and women’s leagues of the same sport and rules differences between USA leagues and international play for some sports as well. Whatever level you want to play at, just use the approved equipment and play by the rules established for that competition.”
Another viewpoint from revkev: “with golf – bifurcation exists already – certainly you have the option to play a back set of tees if you tee it up where a tour event is played I supposed you could perhaps be playing from the same set as used in a tournament – but certainly not under the same course conditions, with the same pin placements – all that stuff makes a dramatic difference in the game – rest assured that the scores at the US Open this summer will be higher than they were this past week at Torey Pines. It will be the same course, but it won’t.
