Phil Mickelson's Shot from the Trees at the 2010 Masters

Phil Mickelson's shot from the trees at the 2010 Masters is one of the most memorable and audacious shots in golf history. Here are the details of that incredible moment:

During the final round of the 2010 Masters Tournament, Phil Mickelson found himself in a difficult situation on the par-5 13th hole. His drive ended up in the trees, and he faced a seemingly impossible second shot to reach the green.

Undeterred, Mickelson assessed his options and decided to take a risky and daring approach. With a small gap between the trees, he chose to attempt a high-risk, high-reward shot that required significant precision and control.

Mickelson utilized his remarkable short game skills and executed a perfectly struck shot with a 6-iron from a tough lie in the pine straw. The ball flew through a narrow opening, curving around the trees, and landed softly on the green, setting up a birdie opportunity.

The crowd erupted in astonishment and admiration as they witnessed the audacity and skill of Mickelson's shot. The remarkable display of shot-making and creativity helped Mickelson seize the momentum and ultimately secure his third Green Jacket, winning the 2010 Masters.

AskMyGolfSpy Vol. 40

Q: PING i59 irons: Why aren’t staff players gaming these in the bag? Feels like a majority are going towards either,

a) i-series (ex: i230)

b) Older models (ex: S55)

Seems a bit odd that staff aren’t using the “newest technology” that their company has to offer for player’s irons. – @TheColbyWatson

It’s not unusual for PGA TOUR pros to play older models and some brands (PING, for example) are less aggressive than others when it comes to pushing new stuff into their bags

That helps to explain the older stuff.

With respect to the i59, it’s not something I tend to think of as a true “Tour” iron. The design is more along the lines of a compact, weak-lofted player’s distance iron. To reference another manufacturer’s lineup, it’s more Mizuo Pro 225 than JPX Tour

While those types of hollow-body constructions have become popular with amateurs of varying skill levels, when they’re found on Tour, it’s typically limited to the longer irons in blended sets.

By contrast, the i-series (currently the i230) is a cavity-back design. While I wouldn’t call it a 1-for-1 with the Titleist T100, it does seem to have carved out a similar niche as an iron that satisfies both the best players in the world and average golfers within the low- to mid-handicap range.

PING Limited Edition PLD “PING Slam” Anser

PING’s fourth PING Slam PLD limited-edition putter is available July 18 at 2 p.m. Eastern. The fully milled PING Anser commemorates Seve Ballesteros’ 1988 Open Championship victory.Fittingly, 88 putters will be available with a MSRP of $990

Closing out the PING Slam

Just like that, the final limited-edition “PING Slam” putter has been unveiled. What’s a PING Slam? In 1988, all four men’s major champions used PING putters.

So far, those 1988 champions secured victories with a Pal, a Pal 2 and a Zing 2. For the fourth major of 1988, PING is honoring Seve Ballesteros’ Open Championship win with his Anser.

OK, so chronologically the Open Championship was the third major of 1988. PING knows that but they wanted to save Seve’s limited edition for last. I get that. Seve was arguably the best PING pro ever.

When I visited the PING Gold Putter Vault, I was amazed at the number of gold putters that came from Seve’s wins. Where other golfers had one or two, Seve had rows of them. In total, there were 47 gold Ansers in the vault. Five of them were solid gold as Seve won four other majors with his Anser in addition to the Open Championship in 1988.

So many wins, so much gold!

Dragon Skin Golf Club Grips

Profiling Dragon Skin grips without referencing Harry Potter and the fire-breathing reptilian beasts Harry, Hermione and Ron encounter during their epic Hogwarts adventures?

C’mon.  Potter guy here.

I read the books, binge-watch the movies once a year, even went to see J.K. Rowling’s Cursed Child performed on stage. (Sorry, no spoilers.)

So this seemed an obvious segue into Dragon Skin, a burgeoning grip brand named after the mythical winged serpent that has long symbolized “strength” in folklore.

Founders of Dragon Skin

Hogwarts wizards they are not but Rusty Estes and Masashi Kamoda, industry veterans with longtime ties to the PGA TOUR and multiple OEMs, are the principals behind Dragon Skin.
