Memorial Day weekend is here. You know what that means?

Time to honor our heroes. Fire up the grill. And absolutely destroy your credit card on golf gear.

Look, I get it. You’ve been eyeing that new driver all season. Your push cart is held together with duct tape and prayers. And those golf balls you’re playing? They’re older than your nephew’s TikTok addiction.

Here’s the thing about Memorial Day sales. They’re like that perfect weather window for golf – you either take advantage or you spend the next three months kicking yourself.

I’ve been combing through Amazon’s deals like a obsessed person. (Which, let’s be honest, I am.) Found some absolute gems that’ll make your golf buddies jealous and your bank account only slightly angry.

One of the reasons we test drivers and then break them down by swing speed is to fine-tune the results to work for your game. Maybe you know this already, but some drivers perform incredibly well at high speeds, while others struggle. One that surprised us this year? The PXG Black Ops 0311 Tour-1. If your swing speed is over 105 mph, it’s a club you’ll probably want to check out.

PXG Black Ops 0311 Tour-1: Built for speed, not for everyone

You don’t usually hear the word Tour and think forgiving, but that’s exactly what the PXG Black Ops Tour-1 delivers, at least for the right player.

It led all drivers in our 2025 forgiveness testing based on carry consistency, ball speed retention, and dispersion area. That means it produces similar outcomes even on mishits.

But there’s a catch: forgiving doesn’t mean accurate. The Black Ops 0311 Tour-1 was one of the most right-biased drivers in the test. For slower swingers or players who struggle with right misses, it’s probably not the best fit.

The golf glove might be your golf bag’s most overlooked piece of gear, but it shouldn’t be. A poorly fitting glove can impact your grip pressure, comfort, and even your ability to square the clubface at impact. If you’ve never heard of cadet sizing or assumed it didn’t apply to you, it’s time to take a closer look.

What is cadet sizing?

Cadet golf gloves are made for players with shorter fingers and wider palms. Compared to regular gloves of the same size, cadet gloves shorten each finger slightly and widen the palm to create a more proportional fit for certain hand types.

If you’ve ever tried on a glove and found the fingers bunching or excess material gathering at the tips, you may need a cadet size.

Why fit is everything

Some hands don’t match standard glove proportions. Cadet sizing offers a solution for the many golfers whose fingers are shorter relative to their palms. As recent testing showed, glove fit was the top factor in determining glove performance.

A well-fit glove improves grip stability, feedback, and comfort. The best-performing gloves in MyGolfSpy’s 2025 test, like the PXG Players and PING Tour, delivered a “second-skin” feel that didn’t shift during the swing.

As a mom, I appreciate the variety of junior golf shirts available today. When I was a kid, golf shirt options were hot, itchy and not very stylish. Thankfully, things have improved a lot. If you have kids heading to golf camp this summer or tagging along with you to the driving range or course, here are some of our favorite junior golf shirts in 2025.

Vineyard Vines: Best for boys

The Vineyard Vines kids’ golf shirts are our favorite for boys. There are three models: Sankaty, Surf and Edgartown. If you have young golfers, you’ll want the Sankaty. It’s a performance polo and it comes in a wide range of styles and colors.

My son tends to be hard on clothes but these polos hold up great. He’s 11 and particular about patterns and designs and Vineyard Vines always has options he actually likes.

Vineyard Vines also has a few polo shirts for girls but they’re only in traditional cotton. The shirt is nice, and my daughter has worn it on and off the course, but I’m hoping they start offering some girls’ shirts in the performance fabric soon.

Ben Griffin has his first individual PGA Tour victory a month after winning a team event, hanging on to beat Matti Schmid at Colonial on Sunday.

Angel Cabrera won his second senior major in a week, shooting a 3-under 69 on Sunday and rallying for a 1-stroke victory in the Senior PGA Championship.

Chisato Iwai took a tournament up for grabs and turned it into her own highlight show, making five birdies in her opening six holes for a 6-under 66 and a six-shot victory in the Mexico Riviera Maya Open for her first LPGA title.

One-half of all of the golf courses in Asia are in Japan. They range from high-end private clubs to public courses to the bottom of the barrel – riverside courses that are cheap, but boring places. Golf courses are for golf only, there are no private clubs with family memberships, swimming, tennis, dinners or Sunday brunches.

What’s Different?

No tattoos allowed (only the yakuza have them), except for one specific private course. Clubhouse dress code: sport jacket and leather shoes (jacket can be draped over arm in July/August). Bring a change of clothes and golf shoes. No hats upon entry. Everyone gets a locker. Riverside courses are walking only (some rare courses require a caddy for walking). Other courses use carts. College/high school teams can walk in the afternoons for a low fee, carrying bags and sand/shovel for divots. Starting times are reservation only; singles cannot just show up. Twosomes are common but not paired with others. Upon check-in, you receive a scorecard cover with your locker number and key. All charges are linked to your locker and paid at the end. Cash is preferred in Japan. Some places have self-checkout using the scorecard cover. No tipping. The driving range is for players only, not casual practice. Business people, not JPGA pros run courses; lessons are not typically available at the course. Caddies are optional. Courses start from both “in” and “out” tees (like in Europe), not “front” or “back” nine. Lunch is at the “crossover.” Private club play is limited (2-4 times/month) with per-round fees of approximately $200-$400.
