MacGregor 2024: New Irons from an Iconic Brand

The new MacGregor 2024 irons lineup illustrates one of the benefits of being a direct-to-consumer brand: You can release new products when you’re good and ready.

MacGregor made its long-awaited (at least by some) comeback to the premium golf equipment game last year. Its new MT86 Pro and MT86 OS irons certainly looked like classic MacGregors, and our testing showed them to be solid performers.

So what do you do for an encore?

Well, rather than join the cacophony of new product launches in January, owner Simon Millington took his time. Over the past few weeks, he’s rather quietly launched three new iron lines on his website.

Are they worthy of your attention?

I know that statement will seem outlandish to those familiar with the Evnroll brand. You must remember there was a time when you, too, first learned about Evnroll as well.

For something to become familiar, first it must be new.

An Evnroll putter just captured the 2024 Most Wanted blade award. Perhaps that win was the first time you heard of Evnroll and you don’t know it was the latest of many Most Wanted victories.

Today, I want to share some of the interesting tidbits about Evnroll, allowing those of you who are seeing the sweetest face in golf for the first time to catch up with the rest of the class.

This Suit Shocks You Into Becoming Stronger

Stop me if you’ve heard (or said) this before: “I want to workout, but I don’t have the time.”

I’ve often found myself in this camp as I juggle work and family life. Sometimes, it feels like finding an hour or two to really pump some iron or get stronger just isn’t feasible.

What if I could promise you two hours worth of results in just 20 minutes?

Now you’re intrigued. So was I.

That, friends, was the pitch when I first heard about Katalyst. On the surface, Katalyst is a funky workout suit designed to, as the name suggests, speed up your workouts. But it’s much more scientific than that.

SQAIRZ Golf Shoes for 2024

SQAIRZ golf shoes will always garner a reaction among golfers.

And your reaction will depend largely on how you view golf shoes. If you consider them to be a vital part of your overall equipment package, you’ll have one reaction. If you view them as a mere covering for your feet that need to be comfortable and decent-looking and nothing else, your reaction will be quite different.

The new SQAIRZ golf shoes for 2024 are lighter and, based on some on-course testing, more comfortable than previous models. They also include something that’s all the rage in golf equipment right now.

An artificial intelligence design.

Let’s dig in, shall we?

Forum Member Review: Maxfli Tour Golf Balls with MAX ALIGN

One of the most popular golf balls with MyGolfSpy Forum members has received a visual update aimed at helping with alignment. It’s the Maxfli Tour series and, for 2024, Maxfli introduced Max Align Technology.

The Testing Opportunity

For this Forum Member Test, we selected 10 golfers to test, review and keep two dozen Maxfli Tour series golf balls. The testers were split into two groups of five, with five testing the Tour X model and another five testing the standard Tour model.

The entire Maxfli Tour Series was praised last year by Forum members so while we were confident the golf ball itself would perform well, any change is still a change that can have an effect, one way or another.

We wanted our testers to review and test to see how the golf ball performed but, importantly, what effect the new Max Align graphic had and if it helped their game.

The group of testers ranged in handicaps from scratch to 12 with varying swing speeds and abilities. We do this to get a broad range of views and experiences to relate to as many of our readers as possible, all while obtaining real-world feedback.

KJUS Has You Covered in Golf’s Extremes

Lasse Kjus knows a thing or two about harsh weather. The former Olympic and World Cup champion Norwegian alpine skier spent most of his life battling the elements around the world from Lillehammer to Nagano, Salt Lake City and everywhere in between.

Unable to find a ski jacket that was as comfortable, stretchy and insulated as he felt in his race suit, Kjus launched KJUS in 2000. After being the first brand to introduce a stretch ski jacket to market in 2002, KJUS spent a decade manufacturing highly engineered fabrics and products focused on temperature management, so wearers weren’t zipping and unzipping their jackets.

Leveraging its knowhow and technology from the ski slopes, KJUS transitioned into golf by launching its first product line of premium rain gear headlined by the Pro 3L jacket in 2013.

“We figured that if we could keep a skier protected from extreme wind, rain, snow, cold elements and they’re incredibly comfortable and they can move, we can also do that in golf,” KJUS President Brooke Mackenzie said.

A Natural Transition

From the outside, transitioning from ski-focused products to golf seems like a bit of a stretch. The former is done at high speeds in some of the coldest, wettest and windiest environments on the planet, whereas golf is typically played in more temperate climates and at a snail’s pace in comparison.

Snell Golf Launches Prime 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 golf balls

Snell Golf is launching three new balls. Two will be familiar while the third is a compelling offering that will allow Snell to reach a larger and, perhaps, unique audience.

It could be said the theme of the new Snell lineup is “simplicity.” That starts with the names—Prime 2.0, Prime 3.0, Prime 4.0. The numerical bits refer to the number of layers.

We’ll dig into more details but the idea is to keep fitting simple as well. Snell will recommend a model based on how far you hit your 7-iron. It’s an approach that speaks to the reality that golfers don’t always know how far they hit their drives and, even when they think they do, the numbers tend to be inflated.

As a target club, golfers tend to have a more realistic sense of how far they hit their 7-iron.

A Fresh Start

It’s unusual for a direct-to-consumer brand like Snell (or any ball brand, for that matter) to replace an entire lineup just one year into a product cycle but there were some issues with the prior generation—most notably with the MTB Prime X. So Snell founder Dean Snell took the unusual step of pressing the reset button well ahead of schedule.

lululemon is Taking Golf Seriously

lululemon is one of, if not the biggest, names in athleisure. They’ve dominated the stretchy yoga pants game and five-inch inseam frat-boy shorts market for years.

But until recently, lululemon had a rather large piece of the pie missing from their growing portfolio: golf.

Golf? Hasn’t lululemon always had polos? Sure. They’ve had polos for years. And their ever-popular ABC pants make frequent appearances on golf courses and college campuses around the globe. But they were mostly seen as clothing for everyday wear. Until recently, lululemon had marketed their polos, pants, etc., as appropriate for golf, but had yet to make anything specifically for golf. There’s a difference.

I remember the first time I saw a pair of pants from lululemon marketed as actual golf pants. This was around 2022 when the brand signed former NBA player turned college golfer JR Smith to an NIL deal.

Even still, lululemon didn’t go all in on golf, at least not then. Those who have been fans of the brand for years saw the potential but it wasn’t until lululemon signed budding star, Min Woo Lee that the brand really started taking golf seriously.
