Callaway Hopes to Set a New Gold Standard in the Tour Ball Category
For Callaway, Feb. 2, 2024, was more than just Groundhog Day.
It represents a stake-in-the-ground moment for their flagship golf ball franchise.
The new Chrome Tour golf balls have hit retail shelves.
Callaway says the names are different because the products are different. Sure, but to understand how we got here and why the change matters, we need to rewind almost 10 years to the original Chrome Soft.

Golfers Don’t Deserve Free Relief From Fairway Divots
The MyGolfSpy staff thinks I’m crazy.
That might be true, but I’m nonetheless willing to die on this hill: golfers shouldn’t get free relief from fairway divots.
Before I make my case—and before you come at me with sharpened bunker rakes—let me make a clarification.
I’m talking about the USGA and R&A Rules of Golf. This is purely about the technical application, whether in a competitive setting or for any golfer who wants to adhere to the rulebook.
If you are one of the millions of golfers who enjoys the game purely for fun—and I count myself as one of them—I’m not judging you for taking your ball out of a divot. Go for it.

AskMyGolfSpy Vol. 42 – Answering your Titleist AVX Questions
AskMyGolfSpy is an opportunity to submit questions to our experts here at MGS.
You can pass along your questions to the team on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or right here in the comments section below!
Normally we cover a range of topics on AskMyGolfSpy but today we’re focusing on the new Titleist AVX golf ball.
Q: What does “AVX” stand for?
The original story is that the AVX was designed to be an Alternative to the Pro V1 and Pro V1x.
Q: Why did Titleist change the cover on AVX?
In a word, I think it comes down to capacity. Part of what we haven’t discussed much this year is that Titleist plans to lean into Left Dash more than ever. That means continuing to increase awareness and ramping up production so that it’s nearly as easy to find as Pro V1 and Pro V1x (both of which need to stay on shelves).

Golf Glove Throwdown: Sam’s Club Versus Kirkland
Depending on the product, Kirkland golf gear has performed well or not so well in our testing.
Having said that, one of the items we swear by is the Kirkland golf glove. As the reigning value champ (for four years running), it’s obviously tough to beat its combination of performance and price.
But … a challenger approaches.
Sam’s Club has entered the golf space.
Welcome to what I’m dubbing “Battle of the Bulk.” Can the new Member’s Mark golf gloves dethrone our current value champ?
