Stretching

Stretching before playing golf is important to improve flexibility, reduce the risk of injury, and enhance your performance on the course. A good stretching routine should target the muscles most used during a golf swing, including those in the shoulders, back, hips, and legs. Here are some stretches you can do before a round of golf:

  1. Shoulder Stretch: Hold your golf club in front of you with a wide grip. Gently lift the club above your head and behind your back, stretching your shoulders. Hold for 15-30 seconds.

  2. Trunk Rotations: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms crossed over your chest. Rotate your torso to the right and then to the left, holding each side for a few seconds. This helps warm up your core muscles.

  3. Side Bends: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your hands on your hips. Bend your torso to one side, hold for a few seconds, then bend to the other side. This stretch targets your obliques.

  4. Hamstring Stretch: Extend one leg out in front of you with your toe pointed up. Bend the opposite knee, lean forward from your hips, and reach towards your toe. Hold for 15-30 seconds and switch legs.

adidas, Malbon Team Up For “Crosby Clambake” Collection

The intersection between golf, fashion and pop culture just keeps getting blurrier. Don’t believe me? Just check out the new adidas x Malbon Crosby Collection.

Inspired by famous entertainer Bing Crosby and his legendary “Clambake” tournament on California’s Monterey Peninsula, the collection features styles, designs and other odes to the 1930s and 1940s.

About the Crosby Clambake

I’ll give it to you straight. I was born in 1998. As such, my golf history knowledge isn’t quite up to snuff. However, after some research, I discovered these “Clambakes” were officially known as the Bing Crosby National Pro-Amateur. After his death in 1977, his family hosted the event for eight years. In 1986, AT&T took over sponsorship and renamed it the AT&T Pro-Am.

The event started as a way for Crosby to play golf with Hollywood buddies and other famous folk. Crosby himself put up the $500 prize money for the first Clambake in 1937, won by Sam Snead.

It’s the camaraderie, spirit and fashion of this era (and events) that inspired the adidas x Malbon Crosby Collection.

We Tried It: Kirkland Signature Driver

For $199, is the Kirkland Signature driver worth the hype? Would you buy it? If not, why not?

Releases from Callaway Golf, TaylorMade, PING, COBRA and other major manufacturers always create excitement and flood social media. Will Costco’s upstart new driver create even more buzz and impressions?

For the answers to those questions, I put the Kirkland Signature driver through a MyGolfSpy “We Tried It” experience. Here are the results.

The Initial Case for the Kirkland Signature Driver

Any golf product carrying the name “Kirkland Signature” creates discussion. Is it controversial? To some, maybe. However, Costco is offering golf equipment at an affordable price. Frankly, that’s a refreshing approach, potentially making golf more accessible.

The average recreational golfer or weekend warrior might be enthralled by a $199 golf driver. A Costco shopper may stumble upon it and think, “Wow, this is an incredible deal!” Another might question just how good a Costco driver can be for $199. All of these scenarios are possible so it is our job to answer the burning question: Does the Kirkland Signature driver deserve the hype—and your 200 bucks?

Golf is Still Booming—But Will Growing Prices Slow Progress?

Demand for golf has surged in the past few years. As a result, the expense to play the game has increased.

Are we starting to reach the point where the growing cost could slow the surge?

Golf’s well-documented pandemic boom has seen an upswing in all areas of the game in the United States. In the seven years following the Great Recession in the late 2000s, the American golf population shrank by 2.3 million. In the ensuing seven years, it grew by 2.8 million.

According to the National Golf Foundation, an estimated 26.6 million Americans played on a golf course in 2023, a net increase of about one million compared to 2022. That is the single biggest jump in on-course participants since 2001 when Tiger Woods held victories in all four majors at once.

Off-course golf participation—which includes simulators, Topgolf, Puttshack and other alternate forms of the game— is also seeing meaningful gains. There were 45 million Americans who played some version of golf in 2023. That is up nine percent from the previous year and more than 50 percent in the past decade.

How To Regrip With an Air Compressor

After we published our How To Regrip a Golf Club article, the most frequent follow-up question was, “How do I regrip a golf club using an air compressor?”

So we immediately started working on this how-to guide to help the DIY golfer install their next set of grips using an air compressor, including the benefits and potential setbacks.

Required Tools

Unlike regripping golf clubs with the traditional method, the air compressor regripping method is relatively straightforward and simple, requiring minimal tools:

See? Simple! No solvent, no two-sided tape (though both can be used if chosen). No mess and way less fuss.

Step-by-Step Guide

Preparation Steps:

1. Gather Your Materials: Before you begin, ensure you have all the necessary materials listed above. Having everything ready will make the regripping process smoother and more efficient.
