Billed as “the best golf app for iOS + Apple Watch and Android,” SwingU offers on-course tools and statistics to help golfers improve their game. 

Launched as Swing By Swing in 2008, the app was rebranded as SwingU in 2016 under new ownership. Not only does SwingU boast longevity in the game but its popularity speaks volumes.

After my recent eBay escapades in which I found some cool vintage golf bags and hats, it’s time we start the hunt for some sweet, vintage golf polos.

Using your putter as a plumb bob to determine the break near the hole will cut strokes from your game. Unfortunately, too many golfers try to plumb bob from behind their ball and without a calibrated putter. Those mistakes result in more missed putts.

Gravity and your clubs are the only tools that you can legally use to determine the slope of a green. Plumb bobbing only helps you understand the slope of the green where your feet are standing. For any putt, your ball will bend more with the slope of the green as it slows down near the hole. That’s why you need to plumb bob with your calibrated putter on a line from BEHIND THE HOLE and back to your ball.

Calibrate Your Putter
Every putter head has a different weight, and every shaft has a different taper. Calibrate your putter by standing 6 to 10 feet away from any door frame and letting your putter hang freely from your fingertips. Close one of your eyes and rotate the face of your hanging putter until one side of the shaft lines up with the door frame. [ RECORD the eye that you used, the side of your shaft (NOT INCLUDING THE GRIP) and the putter face orientation.]

Use Your Putter as a Plumb Bob to Determine the High Side Near the Hole

-Stand on the line behind the hole so that you can see the hole in-line with your ball.-Hang your putter shaft in front of you to line up the hole near the bottom of your shaft.–The top of your shaft will line up on the high side of your ball so that’s the high side of the slope near your hole.-The greater the gap from your shaft edge to your ball, to greater the slope and the faster your ball will break down to the hole.

If there is a significant double or triple break on the green leading to the hole, you need to consider what those breaks will do when your ball is rolling at a higher speed where the slope will have less impact. Plumb bobbing will only help you determine the slope near the hole. If you can see an obvious slope near the hole, DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME PLUMB BOBBING.

In a first for LIV, the 13 teams can negotiate trades through June 9 in an effort to improve their teams but without altering the contracts of players.

With rain in the forecast, the opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship on Thursday was delayed by a few hours.

Brandel Chamblee will be on the call for next month’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Chamblee, one of the most polarizing voices in the game, will join a four-man booth for NBC, Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal reports. He will be joined by play-by-play man Dan Hicks, Brad Faxon and Mike Tirico.

The lead analyst position has been a revolving door for NBC, a network that has come under fire for coverage struggles and mismanagement of a heavy commercial load.

Paul Azinger was not renewed after a four-year run as lead analyst, leading NBC to try out a rotation of analysts throughout 2024. Chamblee, Faxon, Kevin Kisner, Notah Begay III and Luke Donald have all been involved during the audition process.

Kisner appeared to have a leg up on the competition after getting strong reviews early in the season. However, he opted out of covering the U.S. Open, citing a previous commitment.

A Bit of Background

Last year, I tested the Indoor Golf Shop’s Sigpro Softy –  a lightweight three-piece mat with a removable/replaceable/interchangeable (choose your word) hitting strip.

I love the lightweight, modular design (it’s so easy to move it around) but, as you may recall, I’m working in a limited height environment (about 8’7” from slab to joist) and the three-piece Softy is a bit on the tall side. While an inch or two of height doesn’t sound like much, the thinner the mat, the longer the club I can swing without rattling the joists under my kid’s room.

In my height-challenged environment, the difference between the Softy and the Fairway Series is the difference between maxing out with a 6-iron instead of a 7.

Everyone’s time is valuable. We cherish our time on the golf course and many of us just wish we had more time in the day to play or practice.

The PuttOut Pressure trainer is a wonderfully frustrating putting tool that provides immediate feedback, precise practice and scalable difficulty. It is small, portable, and can be used anywhere that you can roll a golf ball. It may make you want to pull your hair out but it will make you a better putter.

Having a good putting mat is valuable. We have done several reviews on Amazon putting mats but a slightly larger investment in a higher-quality mat might be warranted.
